Survey Revisits: Desk Reviews vs Onsite Visits (SNF)

The Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) continues to allow states to use their discretion to expand opportunities to use Evidence of Deficiency Correction in Lieu of a Revisit, or Desk Reviews, to complete revisit surveys. 

To accommodate and make this process as easy as possible, the Michigan Bureau of Survey & Certification (BSC) will identify in your post-survey Notification Letter if your facility is eligible to use a Desk Review. Be sure to read your Notification Letters carefully, as instructions for submitting a Desk Review, if eligible, are included within the letter. 

If you find you are eligible for a Desk Review, you may move forward with gathering your documentation to support and demonstrate compliance and submit to your Survey Manager on or after your stated date of compliance. It is not necessary to reach out to your Survey Manager to request permission or wait to receive a response from your Survey Manager prior to submitting your documentation. However, a courtesy notification that you intend to submit is always welcomed.
