MI Healthy Communities Plan

Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently announced a MI Healthy Communities plan. This $1.4 billion proposal is funded by the federal American Rescue Plan and includes resources to support mental health needs, expands access to behavioral care and telemedicine, upgrades nursing facilities, and bolsters local public health departments.

The proposal includes funding to improve HVAC systems, create negative air pressure rooms and more isolated beds in nursing facilities as well as boosting infection control training for staff. Funding for nursing facilities totals nearly $40 million.

The proposal also offers bonuses and training to direct care workers in multiple health care settings to boost retention.

The governor’s plan included proposals from the HCAM American Rescue Plan one time funding proposal. Click HERE for that document. We look forward to continuing to work with her and the legislature to implement these programs and more.
