Governor Whitmer Issues Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Proposal
Earlier today, February 7, Governor Whitmer presented to the Michigan Senate and House Appropriations Committees her proposed budget for fiscal year 2025, which begins on October 1, 2024.
Skilled Nursing Facilities: The executive recommendation includes the continued funding of the direct care worker wage increase at FY 24 levels of $3.20/hour for CNAs, LPNs, RNs and respiratory therapists. The proposed budget also allocates an increase of $.85/hour to non-clinical staffs, up to $1.70/hour, for housekeeping, maintenance workers, plant operations, laundry, dining room assistants, dietary workers and other non-direct care staff as classified.
Assisted Living Communities Utilizing MI-Choice Waiver: The executive recommendation includes the continued funding of the direct care worker wage increase at FY 24 levels of $3.20/hour.
Next Steps: The budget is a proposal, and the Legislature will now begin work on advancing their own budget bills that will likely reflect much of what the governor proposed but with differences as well. The budget process often takes several months, allowing for continued advocacy on important issues.
HCAM will continue to engage with legislators and the administration to ensure these programs are implemented in a way that supports long-term care facilities along with their staff and residents. Updates will be provided as the process continues.
