New Law Adds Licensing Fees for HFAs

House Bill 5004 was signed into law and is now Public Act 138 of 2023. It took effect September 29. The act continues nursing facility and homes for the aged (HFA) state licensing fees until October 1, 2027. The act also modifies the licensing fees for HFAs. HFAs fees will continue to include the current $6.27/bed fee. In addition, the HFA licensing fees now include an initial licensure application fee of $2,000 and an initial licensing fee of $500. The $500 license fee will also apply for a change of ownership, bed capacity increase and facility relocation. These new HFA licensing fees are consistent with other health facility licensing fees including those paid by hospitals, freestanding surgical outpatient facilities, hospice agencies/residences, and nursing facilities.
