Bill Adds $500 Licensing Fee for HFAs
The Michigan House of Representatives voted to approve House Bill 5004 on September 20. The bill adds an additional $500 per facility fee for the homes for the aged license. Currently the fee is $6.27/bed, which would continue, but with an addition $500/license fee as well. This $500 fee is consistent with other health facility licensing fees, including hospitals, freestanding surgical outpatient facilities, hospice agencies/residences, and nursing facilities. Under current statute, the fees for health facilities are set to expire on October 1, 2023. The bill will extend the fees through September 2028. It is possible the full legislature passes, and the governor signs the bill into law in the next week. You may find the bill and track its progress here.
